Reusing your oil for cooking

The other day we made up some of those onion rings I had stored in the freezer. Of course there was that oil left over. Something that I usually find a pop bottle with a lid for, and then funnel the oil into that and throw it away. But I caught myself and remembered back when I was a kid, with a family of five children Mom never threw away the used oil. By the time we were old enough to help with kitchen clean-up, we were instructed how to screen it and put it back into the Crisco can.

Somehow I've gotten away from this I mean, I must have thought we got enough money so why save oil. But of course we could have had a bit more if I had used this money saving tactic.

Now it's not advisable to put the oil back in the Crisco can because the bottom is made out of plastic and would melt. So I waited till it cooled and put it in a plastic container and stored it in the refrigerator.

We made simple french fries today and I used the oil. Did it taste like onion rings?
No, but the flavor of the fries actually was much better. So what not try saving your oil next time and see how it does.

What a smart way to save. I know that during Christmas time we make rosettes (sp?) and this would be a handy time for that time.

Thank you so much for sharing and joining in on the fun.

Blessings in Him<><
